Ten players representing the Cayman Islands played four games at Caribbean Baseball Organization’s ‘International Baseball Tournament’ held 2-3 November in Palm Beach, Florida.
Cayman opened the tournament with a 15-1 loss to the US Virgin Islands. Cayman followed that with a 7-2 loss to Canada, as well as a 8-7 loss to the team from Boca Raton. A final 8-2 loss to Bermuda closed out the tournament, but 13-year olds Neil McComb and Aiden McCallister say the international experience was very beneficial.
“You meet new friends. These teams play 50 games a year abroad. They play well as a team, and get the simple stuff right, so it was a great experience” said McComb.
“Against Canada, it was a tough match up, simple walks, they’d steal second and third, and would turn into runs. Against the Boca team, we had a strong lead until the last pitch” said McCallister.
