CIG earns 3rd quarter gains: Surplus now stands at $183.8M

Government’s finances registered a significant surplus in the first nine months of 2018, that’s according to its unaudited financial report for the period January to September 2018.

The surplus was $91.2 million higher than originally budgeted for in that period.
Government attributed the increase to higher earnings from import and stamp duties, as well as, tourist accommodations and financial services related revenues.
Also reflected in the government’s positive figures was a savings of $13.2 million, which is mainly due to numerous vacant posts remaining unfilled – including positions in the Fire Service and the Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) department.
