Dead turtle found tangled in abandoned, unlicensed fish pot

An unlicensed fish pot abandoned in the North Sound became a death trap for a young hawksbill turtle.

It was discovered Wednesday (7 November) morning and reported to the Department of Environment.

The DOE said it appears the young turtle got caught in a rope that was attached to the fish pot in a marine protected area.

The DOE regulates fish pots, and told Cayman 27 they cannot be deployed in marine protected areas, and must be licensed and tagged if used elsewhere.
