The Cayman Islands National Boys Under-20s dropped their final game of the 2018 CONCACAF Under-20 Championships Saturday (10 November) 4-2 to Curacao at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
After Curacao’s Gianni Vandepitte opened the scoring in the 12th minute, Cayman’s Kareem Foster would level in the 26th minute with his third goal of the championships. Cayman would take a 2-1 lead 2-1 thanks to Alexander Clark-Ramirez’s first goal of the tournament. Curacao would leveled just two minutes later.
In the 71st minute, however, Cayman would lose it’s top defender, captain D’Andre Rowe, to injury. Curacao would then score in both the 73rd and 79th minutes to record their second win of the tournament.
“Our defense caved after we lost D’Andre Rowe to a bad tackle,” said Head Coach Gillie Seymour. “He was the back bone of our defense. At halftime, I told the players that we had to improve on defense, but again, it showed. Numbers don’t lie. We scored 8 goals overall and gave away 11.”
Cayman would finish fourth overall in Group F with one win, two losses and one tie, ahead of fifth place Guyana.
