Plastic Free Cayman launches 345 pledge

Plastic Free Cayman has launched its 345 pledge.

The aim is to encourage businesses and individuals to take a number of practical steps to limit or eliminate their use of plastics.

The premise of Plastic Free Cayman’s 345 pledge is relatively straightforward.

Plastic Free Cayman has compiled a list of 10 actions for individuals and businesses to curb their plastic use. These can be as simple as refusing plastic straws, drinking from re-usable water bottles, and bringing your own re-usable bag when you go shopping.

Those who take the 345 pledge agree to take three actions immediately, take a fourth in six months, and a fifth in a year’s time.

“Small steps will eventually lead to big changes and then we are encouraging people to go to businesses that have promised to give out straws on request only, only use paper straws, so hopefully we will inspire a community effort on Cayman Brac and in Grand Cayman and hopefully Little Cayman in the near future, to keep our islands beautiful and reduce the waste that’s going to the landfill,” said Plastic Free Cayman volunteer Linda Clark.
