Rugby: Government officially vests crown land for new sports complex

Cayman’s Rugby and Football Union (CRFU) can now begin thinking about putting shovels to ground on it’s new facility.

In the Legislative Assembly Wednesday (14 November) Lands Minister Hon. Julianna O’Connor-Connolly confirmed the Cayman Islands Government has officially vested it’s single acre of crowd land for CRFU use on a 99-year peppercorn lease.

“Absolutely fantastic news,” said Rugby President Derek Haines. “We can now move ahead with signing leases and commence with planning permission and development. Heartfelt thanks to the Cayman Islands Government and Dart.”

The newly proposed sports complex, which will primarily be constructed on 12 acres of land south of the Esterly Tibbetts Highway, is owned by Dart Real Estate. Dart has agreed to both level and lease the plot of land to the CRFU on an identical 99-year peppercorn lease.
