New Biennial exhibition opens Friday at National Gallery

National Gallery Director Natalie Urquhart joined Cayman 27’s Joe Avary on Tuesday (5 February) on Cayman 27’s Top Story segment to discuss the gallery’s new Biennial Exhibition, which opens 9 February.

The exhibition will open to the public on Saturday 09 February with a programme of special events:

Special Lecture: Exploring Biennial Models in the Caribbean – Saturday, 09 February from 6:00 PM to
7:30 PM. Featuring international guests: Dr. Veerle Poupeye, Art Historian and former Director and
Chief Curator of the Jamaica Biennial and Dr. Erica Moiah James, Assistant Professor in the Department
of Art and Art History at The University of Miami and former Director of The National Art Gallery of The
Bahamas, in discussion with NGCI Director and Chief Curator Natalie Urquhart. Admission is free and
refreshments will be served.

Art Portfolio Clinic, Sunday 10 February 9:00 – 1:00PM – Artists are invited to participate in a Portfolio
Clinic hosted by Dr Poupeye and Dr. James that will offer portfolio reviews and feedback; tutorials in
writing artist bios and statements; and best practices for developing submissions to exhibitions,
residencies and grants opportunities. A maximum of twelve spaces are available and artists must submit
the following, in advance, to qualify: electronic portfolio, artist bio and artist statement. Information
should be emailed to by 07 February. Admission is free but
confirmation of space is essential.
