Athletics leaders in the Cayman Islands say young athletes need more mental prepartion in order to find international success.
Invictus Sports Club’s Delroy Murray says Cayman has the talent but athletes lack a way to prepare to perform on a major international stage.
“When the pressure comes — because the pressure isn’t here in the Cayman Islands when they compete day-in and day-out when you’re competing against persons, some of them have already accepted that “x” is going to beat them — so the competitive juices aren’t there. And it starts “here” more than it does in the physical.”
Murray is helping put on a symposium 25 June for young athletes. Among the topics will be mental preparations, athletics and academics and how female athletes can succeed.
