9 independents win as 2017 General Elections come to a close

1 a.m. update: 2017 is the year of the independent. 

Nine independent candidates won seats in the Legislative Assembly, highlighting Wednesday’s 2017 Cayman Islands General Elections. 

Seven Progressives candidates won seats in the L.A. while three Cayman Democratic Party members earned seats. 

Thirteen incumbents and six newcomers were voted in.

Cayman Brac West and Little Cayman: Moses Kirkconnell (PRO) 

Cayman Brac East: Julianna O’Connor Connolly (PRO) 

East End: Arden McLean (IND)

North Side: Ezzard Miller (IND) 

Bodden Town East: Dwayne Seymour (IND) 

Bodden Town West: Chris Saunders (IND) 

Newlands: Alva Suckoo (IND)

Savannah: Anthony Eden (IND) 

Prospect: Austin Harris (IND)

Red Bay: Alden McLaughlin (PRO) 

George Town East: Roy McTaggart (PRO)

George Town South: Barbara Conolly (PRO)

George Town West: David Wight (PRO) 

George Town Central: Kenneth Bryan (IND)
