Sargassum impact: Turtles facing trouble

Environment leaders say they are worried about the ecological impact Sargassum is having on local wildlife, in particular, Cayman’s turtles.
Sargassum continues to pose a challenge locally and Department of Environment deputy director Tim Austin said as the seaweed continues to roll in it is making life difficult for the turtles.
“The Sargassum beaching has been quite a problem for our turtles and any heavy equipment you run the risk of impacting those nests. So we set up this task force to streamline the process so that people who need to act quickly can do that,” Mr. Austin said.
The local task force has also been established to find ways to address Cayman’s Sargassum problem.
